Tiger Ride Posts Mild Upset in Valley View

Updated: October 24, 2015 at 10:31 pm

Tiger Ride won for the third time in four starts since joining the stable of trainer Graham Motion earlier this summer, outfinishing GI Mother Goose S. winner Include Betty to take a rained-off renewal of the Pin Oak Valley View S.

Fifth to Lady Eli (Divine Park) in the GIII Appalachian S. during the spring meeting while under the care of Kellyn Gorder, the Dixiana homebred was the five-length winner of the July 17 Ta Wee S. rained onto a sloppy main track at Indiana Grand and followed with a fourth in the GIII Monmouth Oaks Aug. 22. She returned to the grass for her latest and, despite covering a bit of ground on the final turn, stayed on nicely for a one-length success in the Indiana Grand S. Sept 9.

Settled about four from the back around the first turn, Tiger Ride held that position while well away from the inside and was pulled out into the four path three-eighths from home. She tugged Edgar Prado to the lead at the head of the stretch and was confronted to her outside by Include Betty, but Tiger Ride was able to turn back that challenge. The winner is bred on the same cross that produced champion Shared Belief.

“I felt pretty comfortable running her on dirt,” Motion said. “I would have preferred the grass. I think she’s eventually going to be a better filly on the grass. But obviously she handles both, which is pretty unique.”

The Valley View was automatically downgraded to listed status when it was removed from the grass, pending further review by the American Graded Stakes Committee of TOBA.
